Increase your dog's vitality through a varied, healthy diet.

couple.jpgI own two beloved Golden Retrievers. Although I have been around dogs all my life, I really didn't start understanding their health needs to the extent that I now do until about two years ago.

When Joe and Tyler started getting older (they are both 10 now) I started thinking more and more about their life span and things I could do to prolong my time with them as happy, healthy dogs.

I fear the day I have to say good bye to either of them as they are my closest, dearest friends who have been through more with me than any human on earth. And they have always loved me unconditionally, and I them.

For a relationship this important, I was willing to do ANYTHING to help them along in life to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. That's when I started paying attention to their diet.

I had always bought the most expensive, least damaging food for them. No artificial colors, and the least amount of preservatives as possible. But, you cannot keep food with the principle ingredient being meat without a lot of preservatives.

So I started finding recipes for biscuits and eventually whole foods I could prepare to supplement their regular diet and give them a well-rounded healthy meal plan. And it was a LOT more fun for Joe and Tyler!

I have a dog biscuit recipe I live by that they love and is also good for them, has kept their teeth cleaner longer between cleanings. I call it "Molasses Onasis." I don't know why other than there aren't a lot of words that rhyme with Molasses. Here is the recipe:

MOLASSIS ONASIS

Ingredients

2 cups whole wheat flour
½ cup white flour
1/ Tsp Salt
2 Tbs Vegetable Oil
¼ Cup Milk
¼ Cup Cornmeal
1 Tsp Garlic Powder
¼ Cup Oatmeal
¼ cup molasses
2 large eggs

Directions

Preheat oven to 350. Mix dry ingredients. Add oil, molasses, eggs and milk.
Add more milk as needed to make firm dough. Roll the dough so that it is ¼”
thick and cut into shapes. (We like triangles) Bake on lightly oiled cookie sheet
for 25-30 minutes. (Less time for chewy treats)

Since dabbling with dog treat recipes like the one above, I have collected many more for treats and whole meals and my dogs are absolutely more healthy, vibrant, and energetic than they were before. All because I feed them carrots and any other whole foods and grains along with meats that our doctors say is good for us humans!

Starting today you can turn your dog's life around. Whether you have a puppy or a senior dog, making sure you are giving them wholesome foods to supplement or even replace their current store bought dry food.

You will have their devotion and love for longer. And they will have a much better quality of life all around.

Hey Jack,

Your new site rocks. Since I am a dog lover too - used to have 2-3 dogs at the same time for years and years - I can't wait to test your recipes. I don't have a dogfriend at the moment due to all sorts of things, but will have in about a year and will try your recipes right away.
